Take Your Bike on New Jersey’s Premier Organized Rail Trail Ride This Saturday

The 4th Annual Pedal for Preservation on Saturday, June 6 at 8am will begin and end at West Morris Central High School in Chester, and in-between, the destination is the naturally beautiful Columbia Trail. This former rail trail travels on preserved land through forests, farms and parkland along the South Branch of the Raritan River. An off-road cycling event, Pedal for Preservation is not a race and is open to bikers of all abilities. Rest stops will be available along the way as you pedal through small towns in Morris and Hunterdon Counties. Bikers can enjoy breakfast and lunch as well as music at the Finish Festival. All proceeds will benefit the Land Conservancy of New Jersey in their efforts to protect vital land and water resources throughout the state.

Pedal For Preservation is suitable for families, recreational riders and avid cyclists. The entire length of the trail is 30 miles round-trip but there are a number of shorter options available for participants of all ages. New this year is a two-hour guided hike through a portion of nearby Schooley’s Mountain County Park which has been added as an option for non-cyclists. The hike will be approximately a five mile round-trip, including elevations up to about 1,000 feet.

Registration is being held at West Morris Central High School at 259 Bartley Road in Chester. For more information call Rhonda VanAntwerp at 973-541-1010.

The incredibly scenic towns in and around Morris and Hunterdon County will be highlighted in the Pedal for Preservation, an event local residents look forward to each spring. In addition to the many recreational and fundraising activities in the area, people are drawn to the range of real estate for sale in Morris County.
