Jersey Voices One-Act Festival at the Chatham Playhouse


The Chatham Community Players are hosting their 21st annual Jersey Voices One-Act Festival featuring four performances between on Friday and Saturday nights between July 31 and August 8 and a final fifth performance on Sunday, August 9. The 2015 production will include one original dance piece and six original short plays written by New Jersey playwrights.


Over 70 playwrights from the Garden State have seen their original one-acts produced on the Chatham Community Players’ stage, and audiences have attended over 100 plays since the event debuted in 1995. Performances are held on Friday and Saturday evenings, July 31, August 1, 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, August 9 at 7 p.m. All performances are held at the Chatham Playhouse located at 23 North Passaic Avenue in Chatham. Tickets are $15 for adults 19 and older and $12 for youths 18 and under.


Each of the seven following pieces will be performed every night of the festival:


A Love Story by Walter Placzek of Matawan features a poignant look at familiar love. This production features Bob and Colleen Grundfest and Jean Habrukowich. It is directed by Arnold J. Buchiane of Summit.


Wendy by John AC Kennedy of Springfield recalls childhood days as real as yesterday. This production features Brad Carrington and Debbie Bernstein and is directed by Joann Scanlon of Chatham.


I Thought I Liked Girls by Nicole Pandolfo of Gibbstown introduces Lucy, who has some big news to share with her parents–after 10 years. This production features Judi Laganga, Steve Gabe and Julie Anne Nolan; it is directed by Eric Holgerson of Budd Lake.


Two Perfect Strangers Meet At The Jet Lag Café by Ralph Greco, Jr. of Clifton recreates a scene at four AM in an all-but-empty Paris café, where two Americans strike up a conversation that, for a moment, distracts each other and leads to a new found kinship. The production features Arnold Buchiane and Chip Prestera. The director is Kevern Cameron of Hamburg.


Rodin In Movement by Kimberly Jackson of Newton is a dance piece exploring the stories behind the famous bronze sculptures that Auguste Rodin used in his masterpiece “The Gates of Hell.” This production features Ashley McDonnell, Brielle Sutherland, Brittany Barthelemy, Melissa Kaban, Melanie Jackson, Erin Jackson and Daraius Phillips. Kimberly Jackson of Newton is the director and choreographer.


Gentleman’s Pact by Karen JP Howes of Madison is a wry and witty look at fidelity, friendship and 21st century marriage. This production features Liz Royce, Orin Tempkin and Howard Fischer. It is directed by Lynn Polan of Chatham.


Holy Grill by Gary Shaffer of Point Pleasant tells the story of a soon-to-be bride, a nervous groom, and two retired police officers asking all the right questions. This production features Arlene Britt, Jackie Jacobi, Dan Malloy, Lewis Decker and Victor Gallo. It is directed by Scott Baird of Rockaway.


The Chatham Community Players have been entertaining residents of Morris County and the surrounding area since 1922. They continue to be a vital cultural component of the Chatham community, Morris County and the surrounding areas. The mission of the Chatham Community Players is to produce high quality theater for a diverse audience, while elevating a standard of excellence and providing a creative outlet with educational opportunities and outreach programs.
