Celebrate Obscura Day at The Morris Museum
The Atlas Obscura website has designated Saturday, May 30, 2015 as Obscura Day. This global happening includes over 150 events in 39 states and 25 countries, all designed to celebrate the world’s most curious and awe-inspiring places. New Jersey is participating in Obscura Day with just one event, and it is right in our area. The Morris Museum in Morris Township will be demonstrating a program of clown automata from 12:30 to 2pm on Saturday. Part of the museum’s Guinness Collection, these antique automated clowns, jesters and harlequins are truly unique. The day also includes a rare and exclusive private tour behind the locked doors of the Guinness Viewable storage area, where over 500 more mechanical musical instruments and automata are stored.
The Morris Museum is located at 6 Normandy Heights Road at the corner of Columbia Turnpike, and admission to this event is $25.
Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum explores the arts, sciences and humanities in its exhibitions, educational programs, special events and performing arts in their Bickford Theatre. Living in and around Morristown offers residents a wide variety of cultural, recreational and artistic opportunities.
