Community Event: Team Bloke 5K, Mendham Borough

August 1, 2016 Turpin Real Estate

Garden State Races presents the second annual Team Bloke 5K for Brain Cancer Awareness on Saturday, August 6 in Mendham Borough. The course will start and finish at Borough Park in Mendham. Team Bloke’s 5K kicks off at 8:30AM and the Kids half-mile Fun Run starts at 9:30AM. There is also an opportunity for those who cannot make the Team Bloke 5K to participate in a virtual 5K option. Virtual 5K participants can run the race remotely, and will be mailed a race number and t-shirt; upon completion of their 5K, these virtual participants will email their results.

This fundraiser for Team Bloke was established for Mendham Borough parent Doug Clark, an accomplished triathlete originally from England. In November of 2014, he suffered a grand mal seizure and after two intense brain surgeries it was determined that Doug had a Grade 3 malignant brain tumor. After months of chemo and radiation, the tumor progressed to a Grade 4 Glioblastoma multiform, and after a third risky surgery, cutting-edge treatments are being used to fight this aggressive cancer.

A majority of the proceeds from the Team Bloke 5K will go to help the Clark family with their growing medical expenses. A remainder of the proceeds will go to support the Mendham Borough EMTs who answered the Clark family’s emergency call as well Heartworks of NJ whose mission is to offer hope to people experiencing acute illness, injury or grief.

This event is a USATF Grand Prix Race. There will be awards for each of the following age group winners: 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85-plus. Additionally, the Top Three finishers in all age groups will receive a free pair of Feetures! socks.

Mendham Borough is a tight-knit community with a small-town feeling yet is still close to a network of major interstates and access to Midtown Direct trains in nearby Morristown. Residents are drawn to the open spaces and impressive homes, and many citizens are equally impressed by the spirit of their neighbors as witnessed in the Team Bloke 5K for Brain Cancer Awareness.
